How unusual, I don't think I've even seen one of these at a Zoo. l

Thank you, Susan! This was my first time seeing this type of animal - I love "discovering" new species!

Wonderful close up Richard. You wouldn't want to get too close to this guy in the wild...they are cabable of disembowelling a human if riled. I am a supporter of Rainforest Rescue and in particular our World Heritage Daintree Rainforest in Northern Queensland. After two cyclones, these birds were in big trouble and therefore the rainforest was potentially in trouble as these are the only animals that can eat the fruits of many of the trees and they germinate after being through their digestive track..no birds..no new trees. We set up feeding stations in the short term and in the long term have set up breeding programmes in the various zoos in Australia. We are also buying up and rejuvinating land adjacent to the rainforest which will also help. Fingers crossed...they get a break from cyclones for a few years. Sorry,sorry....more information than you wanted to know...l/f

Thank you so much, Denise, for your comment and great information! I appreciate it. Hope things go better for them in the future!

Thanks, Melanie! He is distinctive at that. It's fun to see an animal for the first time that you never even knew existed before. Be well!

Lovely image. In addition to looking unusual, these birds make the weirdest sounds!

Thank you, Chris! I don't know that I heard them last time, but will make a point to listen for them the next time I go. Take care!
